What size baseball glove should you use if you play second base??

One of the most asked questions we get asked is, "what size glove should I get my ballplayer?" We will be breaking down each position on the field and giving our recommendations in future posts, but for now let's focus on Second Base.

Keep in mind these are general guidelines and the best glove size for a particular player will depend on their specific needs and preferences!

Below is a recommended size chart for second basemen:

Age Glove Size (in inches)
Under 8 9-10
8-12 10-11
Over 12 11-12

Here are a few additional tips when choosing a glove:

  • As a general rule, smaller gloves are better for infielders, while larger gloves are better for outfielders. Infielders need more control and dexterity, while outfielders need a larger target to catch fly balls.

  • Break in the glove. A high quality new leather glove will be stiff and will need to be broken in. Have the player catch and throw a ball with the glove to soften it up. The player can also use a glove mallet (see our other blog post on how we recommend you break in a glove here→
